TCEE and the Children’s Museum of Houston have just the answer for you: the 2012 Eco Extra Conference at the Children’s Museum of Houston from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm on June 19, 2012. Teachers will explore the Kidtropolis exhibit-a hands-on experience in which students learn how to earn money, use their salary wisely as they make purchases with a debit card, and cast their vote for local officials. The museum staff will provide hands-on lessons so that educators can take the museum experiences to their students-even if they cannot visit the exhibit.

TCEE staff will continue the learning experiences as they demonstrate how to integrate financial literacy and math lessons as well as language arts and economics.

Where In The World Does My $ Go? Will provide teachers with insight on how to teach scarcity, wants and needs, and entrepreneurship along with math, language arts and social studies.

How can teachers learn strategies for the STAARs while enjoying their own educational experiences? The answer is through the Eco Extra Conference: The Lone STAAR State in a Global Economy which involves hands-on learning experiences at Austin’s The Story of Texas Museum.

Texas has a rich economic history that is captured in The Story of Texas: The Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum. TCEE conference speakers will discuss the current state of Texas economics as well explore the museum’s historical artifacts that portray Texas’s role as king of cotton and oil. Both the museum staff and TCEE university center directors will provide lessons that teach about the economics of Texas both past and present. Discussions will connect the Texas economy to that of the U.S. and the world. Teachers will learn how to teach the new K to 8 math Personal Financial Literacy (PFL) TEKS as well as the senior economics student expectation on how to prepare financially for college. Sessions will include how to teach the Stock Market Game™ simulation. There is something for all educators who work with grade 4 to 12 students.
