Jean Walker has taught at WTAMU since 1980.  Prior to that she taught English and American History at Coronado High School in Lubbock and Panhandle High School in Panhandle, 5th grade in Claude Independent School District, and 4th grade in Panhandle Independent School District.

Walker retired from the WTAMU faculty on January 15 of 2015, but continues to serve as Director of the West Texas Center for Economic Education.

Activities of West Texas Center for Economic Education: 

  • The Center serves the College of Business as community outreach to K-12 educators and to the business community to fulfill the University’s mission to serve through education, research, and consultation as a catalyst for economic development and enhancement of the quality of life for the region.
  • The Center presents multiple workshops yearly; most recently two Personal Financial Literacy workshops were conducted in October 2014, one for teachers of grades 6-8 and one for teachers of 3-5 grades. The West Texas Center has written curriculum; worked on a local grant to train after-school care providers in personal finance; worked on a U.S. Treasury grant including AISD and Happy State Bank; and presented workshops at state TCEE conferences.
